Well, I have survived my tooth extraction, but it was an experience! Okay, so I had to get checked out of work on Friday before I could leave for the summer--my appointment was in the neighborhood of 3. I had one last thing that needed to be done before I could leave, but it didn't look like it was going to happen. So, I went to my boss and asked if I could come back later in the week to get checked out on this last thing. Thankfully, he said yes, so I was boogie-ing to get home to pick up my grandfather so he could come with me--seeing as how this was my first surgery EVER, I didn't know how I would take it.
So, I get to the dentist's office and I wait, and wait, and wait, praying to God that my recurring hiccups that I've been suffering from all day will not return. They finally take me to the back, take x-rays, and then I wait, and wait, and wait some more. Finally, they take me to the OR, and I lie back in the chair and wait, and wait, and continue to wait (yeah, it's sounding like some refrain, I know!). Finally, they numb the area inside my mouth and give me a local anesthetic (secretly I was hoping they'd give me some laughing gas, too, but they didn't). The 3 fillings weren't bad at all. The extraction was another story. Mainly, there was a lot of pressure, but the dentist was having a very difficult time getting the tooth out. It would get loose and twist around, but it just stayed stuck in there. Meanwhile, while I've got three hands in my mouth, the lower right side of my face is being tugged and pulled and it's hurting like crap because the anesthesia doesn't work in that area of my face! I try to be strong, but finally I have to let them know that I need another shot. So they give it to me, and shortly after that, they're finally able to get it out.
So there I am, minus a tooth, and they're scraping the area, making sure nothing's left in there, and then it's time for the sutures. Let me tell you, it's really funny knowing that they're sewing you up, not feeling them sewing you up, but you can feel the thread as they pull it out of your mouth. It's very funny...
Well, I was very glad that my grandfather was there to drive me, because I didn't feel like driving the 15 miles or so to my pharmacy to pick up my prescriptions. I got an antibiotic and some pain killers (I found out why people like Vicoden so much!). The area has stopped bleeding, the right corner of my mouth looks nasty from having been tugged and pulled, and I'm on a soft food diet, and I can't wait to start eating solid food again. I'm down to taking one Vicoden every now and then (I was doing okay until I got back home from church, so I only took one and now I'm feeling just fine--not high, but normally functioning).
I'm turning 25 on Tuesday...that's gonna be weird. I've got to go into work and finish my last task, and then I've got to wait for DHL to pick up a package to return to Dell. And not next weekend, but the weekend after, I'm hoping to go up to the Woodlands to visit a college friend of mine who I haven't seen since I graduated, so it should be a lot of fun (I'm hoping).
Well, I'm out of here, since I'm doing what I do best--rambling! I think I'll continue reading Naruto. Check ya later!
